Transforming acute mental health services for adults

Transforming acute mental health services for adults in Kent and Medway

Across Kent and Medway, commissioners and providers are working together to transform acute mental health services for adults so that the right support is available for those who need it - this may be as an inpatient in a hospital, at home or in the community. The important thing is that people can get the right care and support in the best way for them, when they need it.

Our continued focus for 2021 is to look at:

  • making best use of the beds we have available in our mental health wards
  • improving the safety and quality of mental health wards, making sure they meet best practice standards for different people with a variety of mental health needs and conditions
  • improving crisis care for people who are acutely unwell and/or may need to be taken to a place of safety
  • providing more intensive support and care for people with more severe mental health problems at home and in the community.

Involving local people

Together we are working on a programme to transform acute mental health services for adults. At its heart our programme aims to do one thing – make sure that should you need it, you can get the right treatment and support in the right place and at the right time.

If you, a carer or family member or loved one has needed to seek support or help for a severe acute mental health problem we would really like to hear about your/their experience, and what you would like from future mental health services in Kent and Medway.

We’d be grateful if you would complete the following survey to let us know your thoughts – this should only take about 10 minutes. The information you provide will be used solely for the purpose outlined above. All responses will be anonymised.

Please complete the survey by 7 May 2021.  If you have any questions or need any further information, please contact kmpt.engagement@nhs.net.

The survey is here: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/KentAndMedwayAcuteMentalHealth2021/

We will be carrying out a range of engagement activities over the next few months, including virtual (online) workshops and individual telephone interviews.

If you would like to be involved in these, please indicate below and send your contact details (name, email and telephone number) to kmpt.engagement@nhs.net to express your interest.
