Thanet GP-led networks celebrate 100,000-vaccines milestone

10 June 2021

A GP-led vaccination team at Thanet’s Saga vaccination centre are celebrating after vaccinating more than 100,000 people.

The team, from the CARE, Margate and Mocketts Wood Primary Care Networks, hit the milestone this week (8 June).

Dr Ash Peshen, who leads the vaccination programme for the networks, said: “It’s been an interesting journey for all of us in the vaccination programme. Hitting the 100,000 mark at our centre is amazing.”

While the team has been working out of the Saga building in Ramsgate, also the site of the large vaccination centre managed by Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust, they have also been out and about in Thanet delivering vaccines.

Last Saturday they delivered 378 jabs at Westwood Cross shopping centre in Broadstairs.

Dr Peshen added: “We’ve been able to achieve this success in our vaccination programme through everyone working together.

“It’s a joint effort of the residents coming forward to have the vaccination and the clinicians and practice staff getting the jabs done.

“Thanks must also go to the vaccination teams at NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS England, who are constantly working in the background, making sure we get vaccines on time to deliver them.”

Across Kent and Medway more than 1,103,314 people have now had the first dose of the vaccine and 792,103 have also had the second.

Paula Wilkins, Chief Nurse at NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We’ve seen a momentous effort right across the county and organisations to get people vaccinated against Covid-19 and that will continue until everyone is vaccinated against this life-threatening virus.

“The CARE, Margate and Mocketts Wood Primary Care Network team is one of the shining examples of where our clinicians and administrative staff are going above and beyond to ensure residents are protected. I cannot thank everyone enough for all that they are doing.”
